The Yamaha 150, 175, 200 and 220 use the same gear case from SEI (so I was told by the dealer) so why is 165hp ok on a 220hp motor but only 112hp on a 150? If this was an issue I think they should be worked in and load tested before sale to alleviate any discrepancy regarding operator abuse.

Sep 30, 2012 · Haven't heard of them, but they are selling SEI outdrives. I have been running an Alpha Gen II SEI drive for about 75 hours now and have been very happy with the unit and the service from the company. I couldn't make the math work rebuilding my old drive or purchasing a new or reman unit from Merc, particularly with the 3 year no-fault warranty.

For sure the SEI is not a clone of a Verado style gear case but a clone of the older style 3.0L gear case that is what shipped on V6 Optimax motors up to 07. So basically if this motors was a just a little older, it would have gotten the older style gear case that was standard from like 97 …

Jul 26, 2019 · Those are SEI. Some people have had good luck with them but most people including myself have had terrible luck. In two years I went through 3 left hand and 1 right hand after proper break in which is tedious. None of them lasted more than 20hrs. Depending on what happened to your OEM lower, you may want to get it repaired.

May 10, 2024 · I am sure a guy fishing the backwater in a small CC or pontoon hits a lot more stuff underwater than an offshore guy who won't even venture into a place than has less than 4-5 feet of clear marked channel. They still don't break often enough for SEI to even knock them off.

Nov 11, 2015 · There is no easy change over from a Volvo SX to a Merc, You'd have to pull the engine and replace everything from the coupler to the drive including the inner and outer transom mount, exhaust system, steering system, etc. The only easy change over to Merc Alpha is for an OMC Cobra drive using SEI's conversion kit. This would not work on a Volvo SX.
