Dr. V. Narayanan has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), the Union Government announced on Tuesday. Dr. Narayanan is a decorated scientist who has won many accolades and has a strong academic background.

Born in 1964 in Melakattu village Tamil Nadu’s Kanyakumari District, Narayanan completed his early schooling in his hometown. He earned a Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (DME) and an Associate Membership in Mechanical Engineering from the Institution of Engineers (AMIE).

Dr. V Narayanan, a veteran scientist with 40 years at ISRO and expertise in rocket propulsion, will succeed S Somanath as ISRO chairman on January 14, 2025, for a two-year term. ISRO’s new chairman is an IIT-Kharagpur alumnus who has worked with ISRO for over 40 years.

The Appointments Committee approved V Narayanan as the new Chairman of ISRO and Secretary of the Department of Space. He will take over from S Somanath starting January 14, 2025. Narayanan will serve for two years or until further orders.
