February may be the shortest month on the calendar but it sure can pack a punch when it comes to the weather. The entire country is dealing with a relentless parade of winter storms and one of the most active patterns in recent memory.

Boston is bracing for a classic New England winter stretch, with a series of storms set to bring snow, wind and potentially messy conditions over the next several weeks.

Snow totals varied across the state, with accumulations approaching as high as 2.5 inches along and north of Route 2, forecasters said.

The snow will arrive Saturday between 10 p.m. and midnight. Once it arrives, it will hit the ground running. The majority of the snow accumulation will occur between midnight and 7 a.m. on Sunday. There will be some light snow and flurries between 7 a.m. and noon but very little additional accumulation.

A messy storm arrives in Boston on Thursday. WBZ-TV meteorologists Alyssa Andrews and Terry Eliasen say there could be bigger snow chances in the forecast.

Light snow near and south of the Hartford-Providence-Plymouth line should produce a coating of 1 to 2 inches of snow Tuesday night, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters expect that snow should leave during the pre-dawn hours of Wednesday.
