The Maine Gun Safety Coalition says it collected more than 80,000 signatures for a bill that would allow family members to petition a judge to remove a loved one's guns if they're considered dangerous.

It will soon be up to Maine voters whether or not they want to implement a red flag law. The Maine Gun Safety Coalition says this is just another step to protect Mainers. On Thursday, the Maine Gun Safety Coalition and volunteers submitted signatures to the Secretary of State's office.

Gun safety advocates turned in petitions Thursday to force a November referendum on a red flag law that would make it easier for police to remove weapons from people deemed a threat to themselves or others.
