The U.S. government deported 177 Venezuelan migrants from Guantanamo Bay to Honduras, then to Venezuela. This action involved 126 individuals with alleged criminal affiliations. The deportations followed a lawsuit filed by the ACLU about denied legal access to migrants at Guantanamo Bay.

The U.S. government flew 177 Venezuelan migrants from Guantanamo Bay to Honduras on Thursday, from where they are set to be transferred on to Venezuela, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security said.

Many of the migrants were being kept in a detention facility that has historically held suspected terrorists. They are expected to be deported to Venezuela soon.

Venezuela said it will receive a flight of its nationals it says were “unfairly” taken to Guantanamo after being deported from the US.
