A Pueblo man was arrested this week for what police described as a fake kidnapping report that prompted an Amber Alert, all to expedite efforts to track down his stolen pickup truck.

Pueblo police say a 13-year-old girl who was reported kidnapped Oct. 16 was never actually missing. The man who reported it now faces a felony charge.

A man lied about a “kidnapped” teenager in Colorado after his truck was stolen, police say. The man, 34-year-old Daniel Reyes, called the Pueblo Police Department to report a kidnapping and car theft from the Sunset Bowling alley around 5:15 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, the agency said on Facebook.

PUEBLO, Colo. (KKTV/Gray News) - An Amber Alert has been issued for a 13-year-old Colorado girl after officials say she was in a truck when it was stolen. Officials said Sandra Mendoza, 13, was missing Wednesday night out of Pueblo. Police reported at 6:44 p.m. that a truck she was in had been stolen, according to KKTV.

Just before 8:45 p.m., officials in Pueblo said the stolen vehicle had been recovered, but a teen was still missing and the suspect was still at large following a vehicle theft in Pueblo. Photos of the teen and the suspect can be viewed below.

Authorities in southern Colorado issued an Amber Alert late Wednesday after a 13-year-old girl was reported missing in the Pueblo area.

The 13-year-old girl at the center of an AMBER Alert was found safe, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation. The AMBER Alert has been deactivated.
