Sullivan, in a fairly serious tone, acknowledged the three goaltenders on his roster and on the Penguins’ road swing through Western Canada. He said he wouldn’t reveal his hand and everyone could wait until puck drop to see which goaltender plays. The more interesting aspect was which goaltender backed up Alex Nedeljkovic on Sunday.

With the Penguins recalling goaltender Alex Nedeljkovic from his conditioning loan without a corresponding roster move it was inevitable that the Penguins would have to healthy scratch one of their three netminders for Sunday’s game.

The Pittsburgh Penguins, and more importantly Penguins head coach Mike Sullivan, have just sent a brutal message to number one goaltender Tristan Jarry. According to a report from Penguins insider Josh Yohe,

Mason Appleton had a goal and an assist in the third period and the Winnipeg Jets beat the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Sunday. Mark Scheifele scored his fifth goal for the Jets, who have won five straight to start the season.

Sullivan’s point about the Penguins being too eager to head into the offensive zone is undeniable. After Winnipeg evened the game late in the second period, they took the lead when Letang jumped into the play before Eller had even secured the puck. It resulted in disaster.

The Penguins blew a 2-0 lead and ultimately fell to the Jets, 6-3. Kevin Hayes and Lars Eller - twice - scored for Pittsburgh, but it wasn't enough to hold off Winnipeg, which is the only remaining undefeated NHL team.

The Pittsburgh Penguins did not have fun on the road in Winnipeg on Sunday. Winnipeg Jets fans trolled the Penguins in the third period as the team fell 6-3 to the hosting Jets. Pittsburgh lost by three goals to the Carolina Hurricanes their last time out.
