Roki Sasaki's window to sign with a major league team opens Wednesday, but the coveted Japanese right-hander has already closed the door on a few clubs, including the New York Yankees, per multiple media reports.

"It has been a staredown...with the Mets and Pete," Duquette said, as shared by Grant Young of Sports Illustrated. "Because there's some uncertainty that there are a lot of suitors for him right now. A lot of the first base options are closed."

Alonso remains the top power hitter available, but as a first baseman with little value outside of his bat, his market has not developed as he hoped. Most recently, the four-time All-Star’s camp extended an exclusive offer to the Mets, believed to be for three years with a high average annual value.
