Speaker of the Senate Amason Jeffah Kingi has gazetted the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, declaring the Deputy President's office vacant.

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has been impeached two years after taking the oath of office. At least 53 out of 66 Senators voted Thursday night to uphold charges levelled against him by the National Assembly last week.

Kenya’s Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was ousted from office on Thursday after being impeached in an unprecedented political saga that has gripped the nation. In a historic move, the Senate voted to impeach Gachagua on five of 11 charges, after a similar motion was overwhelmingly approved by the lower house National Assembly last week.
