The Oakland Fire Department Chief on Saturday said the fire in the Oakland Hills was 50% contained. Chief Damon Covington said crews would be in the area throughout the day, and they will be removing some eucalyptus trees for safety reasons.

Oakland fire crews are working to quickly extinguish hot spots as the elevated temperatures and heavy winds are still a big concern.

A 13-acre vegetation fire damaged homes outside Oakland, local firefighters said on Friday. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, but during the firefighting efforts, parts of Interstate 580 had to be shut down.
