Berlin police say they have detained a man who attacked and injured two people in the city’s Charlottenburg neighborhood, further jolting Germany days after a deadly Christmas market attack elsewhere

Several people intervened after the suspect began stabbing people in the German capital's Charlottenburg neighborhood, a Berlin newspaper said.

Germany's interior minister said on Monday it was still too soon to jump to any conclusions about the man suspected of driving his car into a Christmas market in Magdeburg and killing at least five people.

A Saudi doctor drove into a market teeming with holiday shoppers in Magdeburg, an official said, as people mourned the victims and their shaken sense of security. Some 200 people were injured.

At least five people, including a 9-year-old child, were killed in the attack, which took place in the eastern city of Magdeburg. The authorities are still seeking a motive.
