Not everybody loses the same amount of weight on medications such as Ozempic and Saxenda—treatment indication, dosage, and other factors could play a role, a new study found.

And while it’s still widely used for its intended purpose, helping diabetes patients to regulate blood sugar, Ozempic and its active ingredient semaglutide have also sparked the interest of non-diabetics – as a highly effective weight loss drug.

Researchers estimate that expanding access to weight-loss drugs could save over 50,000 lives annually, reducing obesity rates and addressing health inequities. Current drug uptake levels prevent far fewer deaths.
