"Hillbilly Elegy" later turned into a Netflix feature film of the same name. The movie inspired by Vance's book released to Netflix in 2020. Directed by Ron Howard, it stars Amy Adams and Glenn Close. Vance's character is played by Gabriel Basso. Owen Asztalos also plays the younger version of him.

Glenn Close has hit out at JD Vance after starring in the film about his life, Hillbilly Elegy. Since he was announced as Donald Trump ’s running mate, Vance has been criticised for comments that saw him refer to women, such as Trump’s presidential rival Kamala Harris, as “childless cat ladies”.
