TOPEKA, Kan. (KWCH)—Kansas lawmakers will once again debate a bill set to ban gender-affirming care for minors. The bill is similar to one Kansas Governor Laura Kelly vetoed last year. Republicans came up one vote short of overriding that veto, although similar laws have been implemented across the U.S.
Kansas bill would ban gender-affirming care for children
The Kansas bill prohibits health care providers from providing gender transition care to children who want to change from their biological sex. Providers could not give children puberty blockers, hormone therapy, or surgery. If they did, it would be considered unprofessional conduct, and they could be sued.
