21 states raised their minimum wage in January: The highest minimum is not in California or New York
Many states automatically raise their minimum wage on Jan. 1 like Arizona, Virginia, Connecticut and Minnesota. In others, like Florida and Missouri, specific ballot measures have legislated the increases over the years. Washington state currently has the highest minimum.

Minnesota’s state minimum wage will increase to $11.13 an hour in 2025. Minimum wage will increase in Missouri to $13.75, Jan. 1. It is a jump from the 2024 minimum of $12.30 hourly rate.

Overall, the states set to raise their minimum wage on Wednesday include: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
From minimum wage increases to Medicare drug costs cap, these new laws are now in effect
Medicare enrollees will now pay a maximum of $2,000 on out-of-pocket prescription drug costs annually as part of another provision of the Inflation Reduction Act. The limit applies to prescription drugs bought at pharmacies and through mail orders, which are covered through Medicare Part D.
