Thousands of Donald Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol after he lost the 2020 presidential election. Four years later, some of them are allowed to return to the nation's capital so they can celebrate Trump's return to the White House.

On the last day of federal court before Donald Trump takes office, the judge who presided over the president-elect’s now-dismissed criminal January 6, 2021, case told a defendant who admitted to disorderly conduct that day that he may be the last US Capitol rioter she’ll sentence.

Graves, who took office in November 2021, plans to step down Thursday ahead of Trump's inauguration Monday. Trump has vowed to issue pardons to Capitol rioters on his first day back in the White House, repeatedly referring to them as “hostages” and “patriots."
