Rishabh Pant's recovery after a severe car accident and a major surgery has led the Indian cricket team to handle his workload cautiously. Despite his aggressive innings in India's second innings, Pant was kept from wicketkeeping to ensure his full recovery.

India need to be extra careful with Rishabh Pant, said captain Rohit Sharma after the wicketkeeper batter did not take the field on Sunday, the final day of the Test match. On Day 4, Pant had played a sensational 99-run innings to help India wipe out the deficit vs New Zealand.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma gave a fitness update about Rishabh Pant, who was hit on his knee during the first Test vs New Zealand and did not keep for India. Rohit said Pant was not comfortable running and the team did not to push him beyond his limits which is why they decided to give him extra rest before the second test.
