More than a foot of heavy, blowing snow is expected to fall on Telluride and other cities around Colorado’s San Juan Mountains this weekend, making travel dangerous.

The high country will be getting a taste of winter this weekend, potentially seeing as much as 2 feet of snow in some of our southern mountains.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released its winter outlook, which predicts a drier winter in Colorado.

Southwestern Colorado’s San Juan Mountains could see between 1 and 3 feet of snow this weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

In Utah, meteorologists warned of heavy snow in the Wasatch Mountains south of I-80, the Central Mountains, Southern Mountains and the Western Uinta Mountains, including along some interstates. "Winter driving conditions can be expected along all mountain routes, including higher passes along I-15 and I-70," the NWS office in Salt Lake City warned.

Sweater weather is finally here, Denver, and hopefully you have an umbrella handy because even though southwestern Colorado is getting a good dumping of snow this weekend, the weather won’t be as exciting for those us in the metro.
