One of the most famous paintings in the world, the Mona Lisa, is getting its own room in the Louvre, the museum it lives in in Paris. French President Emmanuel Macron said he was "humbled" to be standing in front of Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece and announced the painting would be getting its own "special space".

An Italian official has called for France’s Louvre Museum to temporarily return the Mona Lisa as the museum faces concerns of disrepair.

The Leonardo da Vinci masterpiece that visitors crowd in to see will get a dedicated room as the Paris museum is renovated and expanded in a major overhaul that will take years, the French president announced Tuesday.

Now that Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece is moving to another room at The Louvre, other Renaissance masterpieces hanging in the same space by Titian, Tintoretto and Veronese may finally get their due.

French President Emmanuel Macron is expected to announce possibly hundreds of millions of euros in renovation work for the Louvre.

The world's most visited museum is also overcrowded, antiquated and desperate for renovations that will start next year and include separate space and tickets for Mona Lisa.
