The State Police security involved uniformed troopers monitoring the crowds of pink-clad demonstrators who came out in support of Read, as well as counter protestors. They also directed traffic, and patrolled the outside of the courthouse.

Massachusetts State Police say it cost them more than a quarter of a million dollars to provide security at Karen Read's first trial. WBZ TV's Jordyn Jagolinzer reports.

The Karen Read case attracted a circus-like atmosphere in Massachusetts with daily demonstrations eventually requiring police to maintain a buffer zone around the Dedham courthouse where the trial was held.
