At least six migrant workers and a doctor were shot dead in India's Kashmir region on Sunday night when militants opened fire near a tunnel construction site, officials said, days after a new government was formed in the territory.

Gunmen in Indian-administered Kashmir killed two labourers and wounded at least two others, the contested territory's chief minister said Sunday, condemning a "dastardly and cowardly attack".

The Ganderbal attack in Jammu and Kashmir has shattered families, claiming seven innocent lives in a brutal act of terror. The victims, including both local and migrant workers, had just finished their day's work when militants opened fire without mercy.
