Hurricane Oscar has formed off the coast of the Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Saturday. The storm poses potential threats to surrounding areas of the southeastern Bahamas and is expected to bring hurricane conditions and produce a storm surge on the Turks and Caicos Islands, with heavy rainfall, the NHC said.

Tropical Storm Oscar formed on Saturday, the 15th named storm of this year’s Atlantic hurricane season and the second in less than a day. It’s expected to bring heavy rain to the Caribbean islands this weekend, including Cuba, which has been facing a nationwide electricity crisis.

Two new tropical storms were named Saturday and one quickly developed into a hurricane as the deadly 2024 storm season continued to churn across the Atlantic, Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico.
