The Trump transition team has vetted at least half a dozen potential candidates to run the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, with two front-runners emerging.

Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Rostin Behnam renewed his call for cryptocurrency legislation and warned of increased litigation risk post-Chevron on Jan. 8, in his last public remarks as chair.

Rostin Behnam will resign as CFTC Chair on January 20, clearing the way for Trump to reshape one of the crypto industry's chief regulators.

In an October interview with Bloomberg Television, Behnam said the agency has been “stretched thin” in keeping up with new assets, including cryptocurrencies, following a court decision that legalized using derivatives contracts to bet on election outcomes. The agency is complying with that decision even as it appeals the ruling, the chair said.
